We are the Queerreferat an den Aachener Hochschulen e.V., a registered Non-profit organisation driven by students, as well as a student initiative at the universities.
Since 1985, we have been advocating for the rights of queer people in Aachen. At our inception, we were known as the Schwulenreferat Aachen; in 2005, the association was registered and entered into the first cooperation with a university, the RWTH. In 2013, we underwent a transformation into the Queerreferat at Aachen Universities, and three years later, we entered into cooperation with the FH. The latest milestone in this brief history lesson is the cooperation with the KatHo, which we entered into just a few years ago, in 2020. And recently, we have received additional funding from the city to expand our ability to have a queer safer space.
In addition to our role as event organizers, we also see ourselves as representatives of queer students at Aachen Universities. If you encounter problems related to the unfortunately still not everyday topic of gender identity and sexual orientation, we are here for you with our services at any time.
Furthermore, we maintain a large library with literature covering all facets, including gay and lesbian life, as well as Queer and Gender Studies, which is open to all students.
